Kolkata, Aug 6 (IBNS): The Federation of Indian Exports Organisations (FIEO), the apex body of all export promotion councils, commodity boards and export development authorities in the country, leading eCommerce marketplace eBay India and PayPal, the leading global online payments provider, conducted a successful workshop for entrepreneurs and exporters in Kolkata to promote online retail exports.
This is part of eBay and PayPal’s collaboration with FIEO to stimulate the growth of Indian retail exporters by helping them sell online to 100 million plus international consumers in 190 markets and accept payments in up to 25 currencies.
A series of workshops will be conducted in other cities, namely Mumbai, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Kochi, Bhubaneswar, Kanpur and Hyderabadto promote retail exports in the country through eCommerce.
Debdatta Nandwani, Deputy Director General (Eastern Region), FIEO, said that this channel of retail export has been proved to be world’s largest online market place which enables Indian goods directly to reach millions of buyers across the globe.
She added that this route of exports can support the efforts of exporters to achieve 20% growth during the current fiscal.
“Being evangelists of eCommerce in the country, our aim is to regularly educate exporters about international trading incentives and best practices for overseas trade,” said Navin Mistry, Head Retail Exports, eBay India.
"International buyers today prefer the convenience of shopping anytime, anywhere and through any device," said Mayur Patel, India Country Manager, PayPal.
"At this workshop, we shared how retail exporters in Kolkata could quickly and economically expand their business through multi-channel platforms – both online and mobile and reach out to our 113 million global customers who trust our brand and feel more comfortable buying from overseas websites that accept PayPal,” said Patel.

Top Products: Sterling Silver Gemstone Necklacesare the exported products in the country. This is followed by Loose Diamonds, Homeopathic Remedies, SilkSarees& Gemstones. Jewellery comprises 38% of all Retail Exports.
Top Export Hubs: Delhi is the Top Retail Export Hub for the country followed by Jaipur, Mumbai, Ahmedabad&Surat. India’ top 3 export hubs of Delhi, Jaipur & Mumbai comprise over 60% of the Retail Exports in the country. Interestingly, Tier 2 and 3 cities like Surat, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Nagpur & Indore feature in the Top 10 Export Hubs.
Top Countries: United States of America is the Top Export Country followed by United Kingdom, Australia, Canada & Germany. USA dominates exports at about 50% of all Retail Exports.
Top Export Corridor: The top Retail Exports corridor is between Jaipur sellers selling silver jewellery to USA buyers. The second largest retail exports corridor is between Mumbai sellers selling homeopathic remedies to UK buyers. The third largest retail exports corridor is from Delhi entrepreneurs selling cotton bedsheets to Australian buyers.
Velocity of Trade: Every minute, 2 products are exported by eBay sellers.
