New Delhi, Aug 20 (IBNS): Union Steel Minister Beni Prasad Verma has courted a fresh controversy by saying that rising prices of food items will benefit farmers.
He said he was 'happy' with the 'inflation'.
“Dal, wheat, rice, vegetables have become expensive. The rising prices will benefit the farmers," Verma told reporters on Sunday.
"I am happy with the inflation," he said.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) slammed Verma over the 'inflation' remark and said the Congress has 'moved away' from common man.
"Nothing can be more bad than this comment. The farmers are getting seeds, fertilizers and electricity at expensive rates today. The farming prices have also increased now. How can inflation benefit farmers?" said BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain.
"I feel that the Congress always talks about the common man but they have moved away from them," he said.
