"It is a victory of Ma, Mati and Manush (mother, soil and people). What has swept is a pro change storm. We had appealed to the people to resist the CPI-M and they responded," she said, whose party got 19 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal.
The alliance of Trinamool Congress and Congress bagged 26 of the 42 Lok Sabha seats in the state, leaving the Left to lick its wound with only 15 seats from its last tally of 35. The BJP bagged one seat.
Mamata said her party would work for ‘real’ development of the people.
"We want development in real sense and an end of terror.
"The communists are being wiped out from India. CPI-M has lost its importance nationally and lost its right to rule in Bengal," Banerjee said.
The Trinamool chief further said her party will try to bring in a situation for an early assembly election this time. Next assembly polls in West Bengal is due in 2011.
"We have lost 15 of our party workers in the struggle in the past few days. We would try to have an assembly election early because the Left has lost power through this election," she said.
Talking about the farmland versus industry issue at Singur, she said: “We are not against industry or factory. In Singur we just wanted 400 acres back and not the whole land. We would like to work with a vision.”
