Rubbishing media speculations that Goa Congress has already released a probable list of candidates, party’s campaign manager Mauvin Godinho said the screening committee is currently scrutinizing the shortlisted candidates.
“The delay is essentially to reconfirm the strengths and weaknesses of the shortlisted candidates,” he said.
The screening committee is headed by Congress MP Oscar Fernandes.
Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee Chief Subhash Shirodkar and other influential leaders are reportedly in New Delhi to participate in the meeting on Tuesday.
The Congress which is contesting from all 40 seats has received several applications, hence making it difficult for the party leaders to finalise the names.
While top leaders are tight-lipped, party officials are skeptical that denial of tickets to aspirants, many of whom are new faces will have adverse effect during elections.
A couple of party bigwigs were lobbying to pressurize the Centre to fetch tickets to their family members and non-blood relations.
