You showcased a bridal collection at KFW I, and now this Spring-Summer line...
The KFW was kind of summer-autumn line...so I tried to showcase a traditional couture, which apparently turned out to be a bridal line. Now it’s time for a sharp contrast...a completely casual stuff. We are moving from old traditions to newer outlook. We are ‘Returning to the Roots’ (the theme of KFW I), yet spreading our roots as well.
What are fabrics you used for this line?
I always work in handlooms...it’s mainly handloom linen and silk...all are hand batik, crackles batik. The motifs are all geometric and floral.
As a designer, how to will you evaluate your own line?
As a designer, I will never make a dress that is for a party or a one-hour occasion. There’s no sense in making non-wearable dresses. And I always make designer wears that are wearable 24x7...you can sleep and wake up and then go to office, followed by a party and finally return home in the same dress and yet not feel at all uncomfortable.
Your collection was applauded by all. So has any buyers approached you yet?
To a designer participating in a fashion show of international importance and that too Kolkata Fashion Week is much more important than pleasing buyers. It’s the dream of any designer to showcase his collection at a platform of international stature.
How affordable are your dresses?
The price range starts from Rs.4,500 to Rs 7,000.
