Mumbai, Aug 2 (IBNS): As siblings across India are observing the festival of Rakhi or Raksha Bandhan on Thursday, the world of micro-blogging site Twitter was buzzing with wishes from celebrities as they too joined the mood of celebration.
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi tweeted: "Happy Raksha Bandhan! Its a unique celebration of affection & trust between a brother & sister. My best wishes to all."
Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan tweeted: "Before all else, it is past the hour and time to wish all a happy RakshaBandhan .. a sisters love for brothers !!The sister-brother relationship need not necessarily be genetic .. i have none that are genetic, but millions tie the 'rakhi' !"
Actor Anupam Kher wished his fans and said: " Happy Raksha Bandhan to you all."
Actor Mallika Sherawat shared with his fans: "Happy Raksha Bandhan, wish my brother vikram was with me today."
Actor Shabana Azmi said: "India's syncretic cultures fascinate me.Tied rakhi to my brother and am keeping roza. Am sentimental about Rakhi and can't wait for Eid."
The Rakhi festival, which is also known as Raksha Bandhan, celebrates the sweet relationship between a brother and his sister.
Interestingly, the festival is celebrated by multiple religious communities like Hindus, Sikhs, and Muslims all over the world.
The rakhi ceremony involves the tying of a rakhi (sacred thread) by a sister on her brother's wrist that symbolizes her love and prayers for her brother's good health and prosperity. On the other hand the brother takes the lifelong vow to protect her. |
