Kolkata, July 13 (IBNS): Kolkata saw an unusual book release on Thursday when the city's Oxford Bookstore hosted the release of ‘Season’s First Shower’ penned by 13-year-old Bohnita Roychoudhury.
The book was released by Ashok Vishwanathan, award winning film director and journalist Antara Dev Sen, who is also the daughter of Nobel Prize winning economist Amartya Sen.
The book ‘Season’s First Shower’ from Power Publishers is an anthology of fifteen poems and songs that highlights all the aspects of existence in a child’s life.
The poetry dwells on the throes of growing up in a child’s life and also suggests the means of coming to terms with such problems.
The young poet who wrote these poems at the age of 11, said: “I have many questions about life. I just put into words whatever question comes into my mind. Some are about life and some are about challenges etc.”
The 13-year-old writer who is inspired by her father wants to dedicate the book to her grandparents.
Praising the poems, Vishwanathan commented: “They (poems) are whimsical yet sensitive and there is no regret. There is naughtiness in the lines.”
“She is a bookworm. The poems in the book are more or less good. We have to keep in mind that she is a 13-year-old girl. But she has the vision of poet. Her poems are not babyish,” added Dev Sen.
Khalil Gibran, Shakespeare, Vikram Seth are the writers who inspire Bohnita and she aspires to write sonnets, songs as well as novel.
Bohnita revealed that she has already started writing a novel titled “Reeta’s Magic” that she plans to launch after two-three years.
