Mumbai, June 21 (IBNS): India, along with the rest of the world, celebrated 'World Music Day' on Thursday.
Every country plans and celebrates the day in its way.
Keeping the spirit of the day in mind, amateur as well as professional musicians are encouraged to perform on the streets on this day.
Several concerts are organized in different cities of the world to cherish the joy of music.
In India also concerts were arranged in different cities including Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi and Bangalore to mark the occasion.
The origin of World Music Day and its history is quite interesting.
The Fête de la Musique, also known as World Music Day, was conceptualized first in France in 1976 by American musician Joel Cohen, who proposed an all-night music celebration to mark the beginning of the summer solstice.
The idea was taken up by French Music and Dance director Maurice Fleuret for Minister of Culture Jack Lang in 1981 and first took place in 1982 in Paris.
Since then, it has become a worldwide phenomenon with over 32 countries worldwide having their own celebrations in their own way.
Folk musician Raghu Dixit tweeted: “Happy World Music Day people :) May music and the joy of it be all yours :)”
Musician Vishal Dadlani posted on his Twitter page: "World Music Day? So stop listening to generic manufactured music, and find a new, alternative sound today."
Singer Anushka Manchanda remarked: "Driving from Anjuna to Calangute with boyfriend blasting Enter Sandman. Happy Music Day peeps!"
Model Poonam Pandey said: "Happy world music day :) thanks to all great musicians for making me love the music."
It is not only celebrities who wished their fans on this day but popular music channels also greeted music lovers on the special date.
Vh1 India tweeted: "Happy World Music Day! Are you ready to send in those favorite tracks for our #UltimatePlaylist? What are you waiting for?"
MTV India wished music lovers: "Here's wishing all of you a very #HappyWorldMusicDay Stay tuned today for Music the #MTV way."
Popular music channel Channel V, MTV also celebrated the occasion throughout the day with special programmes.
