New York, July 24 (IBNS): Popular internet search engine Google on Tuesday celebrated the 115th birth anniversary noted American aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart with a doodle.
The doodle showcased the American aviation legend climbing the Lockheed Vega 5B monoplane that she used to fly across the Atlantic alone in 1932.
The word Google is written below the wings of the Lockheed Vega 5B monoplane, just the way the original registration number of the aircraft was painted on it.
The doodle showed her confidently climbing up the aircraft with the yellow scarf fluttering in the wind.
When clicked on the doodle, netizens were taken to several links related to Earhart.
Earhart was the first aviatrix to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean.
She was born on 1897 in Kansas. She received the U.S. Distinguished Flying Cross for this record.
She set many other records besides writing best-selling books about her flying experiences like ‘The Fun of It’, and '20 Hrs., 40 Min'.
Earhart was instrumental in the formation of 'The Ninety-Nines', an organization for female pilots.
Earhart joined the faculty of the Purdue University aviation department in 1935 as a visiting faculty member to counsel women on careers and help inspire others with her love for aviation.
She was also a member of the National Woman's Party, and an early supporter of the Equal Rights Amendment.
During an attempt to make a circumnavigational flight of the globe in 1937 in a Purdue-funded Lockheed Model 10 Electra.
