Mumbai, July 26 (IBNS): Maruti Suzuki-Auto Car Young Driver Contest 2012, the hunt for India's safest driver, is all set to enter its second leg.
As many as 225 participants from Mumbai have successfully cleared the first leg - the online test- and will now take the practical driving test.
Mumbai incidentally saw one of the highest number of participants competing in the online test in cities across India.
These successful 225 contestants will now compete against each other for a place in the city finals and shall be judged on their knowledge and acumen in safe driving.
The Maruti Suzuki Young Driver’s contest which is open to individuals from the age group of 18-30 years with a valid driving license, garnered a whopping 21000 registrations this year.
The online registration process for the contest closed on June 8.
In the process of selection, the first stage was the online driving skill test.
Out of the 21,000 participants who registered for the online test, 1,123 have qualified for the practical tests that shall be conducted across 65 cities in 110 Maruti Driving Schools.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayank Pareek, COO – Marketing& Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “The impressive response from various cities this year shows that the level of awareness regarding road safety has risen remarkably amongst the youth."
Out of the 1,123 participants who shall be taking the practical driving test, 20 will be shortlisted for the final round.
The Grand Finale of the Maruti Suzuki-Autocar Young Driver contest shall be held at the state of the art Institute of Driving and Traffic Research (IDTR), New Delhi.
The winner of the contest will become the ‘Safety Ambassador’ to promote safe driving and also win the grand prize 'Maruti Suzuki A-Star'.
