Kolkata, July 10 (IBNS) Everyone knows him as the man behind the iconic freeze shots of maestro Satyajit Ray and his works.
But on Saturday here, a book of photography featuring 52 Indian artists added one more feather in the illustrious cap of ace photographer Nemai Ghosh, known for his long association with Satyajit Ray.
Nemai Ghosh was felicitated by West Bengal Governor M K Narayanan at the Weavers Studio Centre for Arts here where his book "Faces of Indian Art" was inaugurated.
The photographer, who was conferred the Padmashree this January, said the most touching moment in his life was when Union Home Minister P Chidambaram wrote in appreciation that his works enriched the treasure of art in India.
"Nemai Ghosh is a rare combination of sublime art and complete humility. What he has done with this book has never been done before. It is unique," said painter Jogen Chowdhury who was present at the inauguration.
"Faces of Indian Art" takes the readers on an extraordinary and intensely personal journey into an artist's private domain.
Widely known as the photo-biographer of Satyajit Ray, Ghosh did not restrict him to Ray only as he documented art and their creators capturing painters from Jamini Roy to Manjit Bawa and Jogen Chowdhury.
The book release also threw the gates open for an exhibition showcasing works of 52 eminent artists featured in the book. They included Anjolie Ela Menon, S H Raza, Madhvi Parekh, M F Husain and Somenath Hore among others.
The exhibition was patronized by Art Alive Gallery and Weavers Studio Centre for Arts of Kolkata.
