“The Ministry has already directed all Medical Officers of Health( MOH)  to be  alert to combat the menace,”  media secretary to the Ministry of Health Care and Nutrition W.M.D Wanninayeka told reporters.

He said relevant laws have been formulated with regard to the prevention of breeding of mosquitoes.

“As such, the Ministry has the prerogative to impose a fine of Rs.1,000 up to Rs. 25,000 on such offenders.

”Furthermore, the laws could also see offenders jailed for a period of six months extended up to two years,” he said.

The Director General of Health has been given complete authority to implement these laws and Dengue has now spread to 68 Medical Health Official Divisions, he added.
