Scribes peeved over journo's arrest

Chennai, Oct 8 (IBNS): The Madras Union of Journalists on Thursday strongly condemned the arrest of Tamil daily Dinamalar's news editor and said the incident did not call for the sudden arrest.

The union would conduct an emergency meeting on Thursday, where they would decided their future course of action.


The editor was arrested after Kollywood stars protested against an article that the newspaper carried. The article contained details of a statement by a TV actress Bhuvaneswari, who was arrested on charges of prostitution in the city. The actress alleged that many popular Kollywood actresses ran brothels in the state.


Around 30 Tamil actors met chief minister M Karunanidhi on Thursday morning and thanked him for the journalist's arrest.
