Former Haryana director general of police SPS Rathore was pronounced guilty of molesting 14-year-old Ruchika, a tennis player, and sentenced to six months’ rigorous imprisonment. CBI's special magistrate J S Sidhu also fined him of Rs 1000.
Ruchika Girhotra was molested by Rathore who was an inspector general of police in Haryana and president of Haryana Lawn Tennis Association.
Almost three years after the crime the victim committed suicide. A CBI inquiry that began in 2000 following a court order later found Rathore, who resigned as the DGP of Haryana, guilty and chargesheet was filed against him.
“This came too late. It is not enough because she committed suicide after the incident following harassment of her family by the cop,” said a family friend of the victim.
Ruchika's friend Rimu, an eyewitness in the incident, said the former cop should get more severe punishment.
“I will not comment on this,” Rathore said when mobbed by the mediapersons. |
