Mickky Pacheco surrenders, sent to jail

Panaji, July 3 (IBNS) Former Goa Tourism Minister Fransisco Mickky Pacheco on Saturday surrendered before a sessions court in Margao in relation to the mysterious death of his female companion Nadia Torrado. He was remanded in judicial custody for two days.
Mickky and and his former officer on special duty, Lyndon Monteiro, were both wanted over the death of Torrado.
After his surrender, Mickky Pacheco told NDTV: "I am trapped by political opponents. Nadia was just a close friend...I cross my heart and say I am innocent."
Pacheco’s lawyer Amit Palekar told reporters Friday,"Pacheco will make himself available to the Crime Branch tomorrow morning."
Earlier on Thursday the Supreme Court rejected his bail plea saying the tampering of evidence in the case cannot be ruled out.
Miccky Pacheco had gone underground after he was quizzed by cops over the mysterious death of Nadia, was denied anticipatory bail by the Goa Bench of the Bombay High Court on June 21.
Nadia Torrado succumbed at a Chennai hospital on May 30 after having consumed rat poison.
Pacheco is wanted on charges of abetting suicide and destroying evidence.
The bail plea of Lyndon Monteiro, officer on special duty (OSD) to Pacheco, was also rejected by the Supreme Court on technical ground.
