"The Prime Minister wished his speedy recovery and offered medical assistance. He said if needed he can help bring any doctor from anywhere to treat Basu," Chatterjee said.
The AMRI doctors said if needed they would take the assistance, he said.
The Prime Minister stayed in the hospital for 20 minutes and then went straight to the airport to catch a flight to New Delhi.
The condition of Basu remained unchanged.
The PM was accompanied by West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee.
A heavy security blanket was thrown around the hospital and the VVIP route and the area around AMRI was cordoned off.
The PM arrived Kolkata around 1230 pm along with Pranab Mukherjee and headed straight for the AMRI hospital in Salt Lake.
The PM was received in the airport by West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee.
Basu's condition remained unchanged since Wednesday evening when a medical bulletin said he was little better but critical.
Hospital sources said Basu, now on ventilator, was given liquid food on Thursday. His blood pressure is fluctuating, a TV report said.
"There is no further deterioration in his condition. But he is yet to respond to the new medicines given," said Left Front chairman and CPI-M leader Biman Basu.
A new bulletin would be issued at 6 pm Thursday
Basu was admitted with chest congestion on Friday last. Diagnosed with pneumonia, he is on ventilator. |
