New Delhi, Nov 16 (IBNS): Former home secretary GK Pillai strongly reacted to the comments made by former Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf saying that the latter has 'betrayed' himself by saying that Dawood Ibrahim was responsible for attacks in India.
"It was an interesting comment. I think in one sense he has betrayed himself by saying Dawood was responsible for attacks in India. That itself shows Pakistani establishment knew what he was doing," GK Pillai was quoted as saying to a national news channel.
He said that Pakistan used terrorism and violence as instruments of state policy.
Pillai commented that Pakistan would continue using Dawood as long he is helpful to be used against India.
"Therefore, so long his usage is required they would continue to use Dawood against India," he said.
Earlier, in an interview to NDTV, the self-exiled former president of Pakistan said Dawood, amid reports that he is hiding in Pakistan, is held in high esteem in his country.
Speaking to Barkha Dutt of NDTV, Musharraf, who is now based in UK, said:"... you are talking about what the Indian perceptions are. But do you know what Pakistanis think of Dawood Ibrahim?
"They think that he did a very good job... Because Indians killed 3,000 Gujaratis. In Gujarat they killed 3,000 Muslims. Therefore Dawood Ibrahim reacted. So he is held in high esteem. This is what happens in Pakistan."
Musharraf said he does not support holding Dawood in esteem, but things are not simple.
"I think things are very complicated. They are not simple," he said.
He also denied having any knowledge if Dawood Ibrahim is in Pakistan.
"I don't know. I don't know. I wouldn't be able to confirm that," he told the interviewer.
Dawood, who is accused of masterminding the 1993 Mumbai blasts, is the head of the organized crime syndicate D-Company.
He is currently on the wanted list of Interpol.
After the 1993 Bombay bombings, which Ibrahim allegedly organized and financed, he became India's most wanted man.
According to the United States, Ibrahim maintained close links with al-Qaida'sOsama bin Laden. As a consequence, the United States declared Dawood Ibrahim a "global terrorist" in 2003 and pursued the matter before the United Nations in an attempt to freeze his assets around the world and crack down on his operations.
