New Delhi, Nov 30 (IBNS): Both houses of the Parliament were adjourned for the seventh consecutive day on Wednesday as opposition parties and section of ruling alliance members continued their protest over the center's decision to allow Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the supermarket sector.

Congress's key partners in the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government joined the opposition parties on Wednesday as they demanded a complete rollback of the decision taken by Centre on FDI.

Both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were initially adjourned till the afternoon on Wednesday and were soon adjourned for the rest of the day.

On Wednesday, both the houses were first adjourned during Question Hour.

The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned for the entire day as opposition members and Members of Parliament (MPs) of Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) raised slogans and several members moved to the Well.

On the other hand, some members of the ruling Congress and of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) were seen waving placards in demand of creating a separate Telangana State in the Lok Sabha.

TMC members waved placards and demanded for a rollback of the FDI while Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) and Shiv Sena members were seen rushing towards the well and shouting slogans.

In the Rajya Sabha, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), the Janata Dal (United) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) members and TMC members were seen shouting slogans as soon as the House reassembled at noon.

BSP, Left and the BJP leaders walked towards the Well and shouting slogans against FDI.

Deputy Chairman K. Rehman Khan adjourned the House on Wednesday.

For the last two days, Opposition parties led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have virtually refused to led the Houses function, with its lawmakers clamouring for a rollback of the policy that they say is set to harm local traders and consumers.

With more than a week lost to disorder in the month-long Winter Session of the Parliament and a number of reforms hanging in the line, the government is mulling accepting the demand to discuss the issue through an adjournment motion, media reports said on Wednesday.

The Parliament has not conducted properly for a single day since the start of the winter session.

India’s cabinet on Nov 24 decided to allow 51 percent FDI in the multi brand retail market and 100 percent in single-brand retail, paving the way for global supermarket giants to step into the $450 billion sector that was widely seen as one of the last frontier markets.

After years of dithering, India’s cabinet arrived on the decision, allowing global retail giants like Wal-Mart, TESCO and Carrefour to inject sorely needed investment in Asia's third-largest economy, but the move triggered angry reactions of the Opposition cutting across party lines.
