Bhanwari: Accused Kailash Jakhar arrested

India Blooms News Service

Jodhpur, July 2 (IBNS): The police arrested a key accused in the Bhanwari Devi murder case, Kailash Jakhar, who had escaped from the premises of Jodhpur sessions court, on the wee hours of Monday.

Jakhar had escaped from the the court premises on June 14.

Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested Jakhar from a hamlet in Churu district at around 3 am.

"Jakhar is under the custody of the Jodhpur Police," said Commissioner of Police Bhupendra Kumar Dak.

At least fifteen armed people had opened fire on June 14 to help Jakhar escape from the police custody. The cops later arrested fourteen people.

The Jodhpur Police had started an operation to track Jakhar in Bikaner, Barmer and Jodhpur districts.

According to reports, Police teams were also sent to other Indian states like Karnataka, Gujarat and Odisha to trace the accused.

Jakhar , who is a key member of the Bishna gang, was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in January.

Bishna gang was allegedly involved in disposing off the body of the 36-year-old nurse.

Earlier, two Congress leaders Malkhan Singh and Mahipal Maderna were arrested in connection to the murder of the midwife nurse.

The Bhanwari Devi case created a turbulence in Rajasthan's political paradigm.

The Jodhpur Police in September had registered a case of rape, murder and criminal conspiracy against Mahipal Maderna in the case of the missing Dalit nurse.

The case was filed after a Bilara trial court directed Rajasthan Police to probe alleged role of Maderna in the case.

Maderna allegedly had an affair with Bhanwari Devi as CDs that were recovered by CBI showed the minister and the nurse in a compromising position.

Malkhan Singh was also seen in a compromising position with Bhanwari Devi in the CD along with Maderna.

Maderna was dropped from the Ashok Gehlot cabinet on Oct 16.
