New Delhi, Aug 2 (IBNS): Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and Bollywood actor Rekha, who recently took oath as Rajya Sabha MPs, will exercise their franchise in the Vice-Presidential election on August 7.
Tendulkar has confirmed to Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Rajiv Shukla through a Short Message Service (SMS) that he will be present to cast his vote for the Vice-Presidential poll, The Pioneer reported quoting Congress sources.
According to reports, Rekha will also be present to vote for the Vice-Presidential poll.
“We have already spoken to Rekha and she has assured us she will be coming to Parliament to vote,” a Congress source was quoted as saying by the newspaper.
Sachin has not spend a single day in the Rajya Sabha so far, while Rekha spent about 19 minutes in the house on her first day after taking oath.
Pertinently, the voting for the Vice-Presidential election will be the first time when both the icons will exercise their ballots as MPs of the upper house of the Indian Parliament.
The Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) has renominated Hamid Ansari for a second term as the Vice-President of the country.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) have fielded senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Jaswant Singh for the Vice-Presidential poll.
Former Indian President Pratibha Patil had approved the names of Rekha and Tendulkar for nominated seats in the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament earlier this year.
