HC pulls up Yeddyurappa over Lokayukta

Bangalore, Apr 4 (IBNS) The Karnataka High Court has pulled up former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa for 'hurriedly' appointing Shivaraj V Patil as the new Lokayukta after being indicted in the illegal mining scam.
“The Chief Minister of the day was indicted in the illegal mining report of the then Lokayukta. He was going out of the office following demand for this resignation. Yeddyurappa hurriedly issued a notification on July 26, 2011 appointing the new Lokayukta, whose name was not recommended by the then Chief Justice,” said the court on Tuesday.
The high court on March 7 had quashed the First Information Report (FIR) against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader in connection to an illegal mining case.
The powerful south-Indian leader on July 31 last year had resigned as the Chief Minister of Karnataka after he was indicted by the Karnataka Lokayukta Santosh Hedge in the illegal mining report.
Yeddyurappa and his family members were named by Karnataka Lokayukta N Santosh Hegde in what he called Rs 16,000 core illegal mining scam.
He also faced an arrest, but getting bail in both land cases, Yeddyurappa walked out of jail on Nov 8.
