New Delhi, June 6 (IBNS): A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on Wednesday gave permission to 2G scam accused former Telecom Minister and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader A Raja to visit his home state Tamil Nadu.
Raja, who is the main accused in the 2G spectrum allocation scam, was released from the Tihar jail last month.
The court said Raja can visit Tamil Nadu on the grounds that he will not contact any witness of the 2G scam.
The court gave him the permission to visit Tamil Nadu between June 8-30 as it will remain closed for summer vacation from June 9-30.
He is likely to visit Chennai on Friday.
The court on May 15 granted bail to Raja who was languishing in the Tihar jail for 15 months in the 2G case.
However, the court had said Raja cannot leave Delhi without its permission.
Raja, who was arrested in 2011 for his alleged role in the scam, had applied for bail in the court on May 9.
Touted to be the biggest corruption scandal of independent India, the 2G scam, allegedly masterminded by Raja, pertains to a biased distribution of mobile airwaves and operating licenses, in lieu of kickbacks, to telcos that could have cost the treasury up to Rs 1.76 lakh crore in lost revenue, according to the government's auditors CAG.
