Panaji, July 7 (IBNS) The Goa Police on Saturday reopened a two-year-old case of a British tourist’s death as a murder investigation, in which it had filed a closure report in 2010.
Denyse Carole Sweeney, 34, who lived in Cambridge Street (Normanton, United Kingdom), had died in a private hospital in Anjuna on April 16, 2010.
Anjuna police inspector Rahul Parab said they will reinvestigate the case as murder because the deceased’s family suspect foul play.
“It appears that the Briton was killed. The family claims she was hit on the head and had bruise marks on her body,” he said.
The initial claim of the local authorities was that Denyse had reportedly snorted Ketamine drug in a bar where she collapsed and later died in the hospital.
During the course of investigation, the autopsy report mentioned she had most likely had drug overdose. The family refused to believe that drugs could be the reason for the death as they had found more than 20 bruise marks on the body of Denyse.
Maureen, the victim’s sister launched a campaign on Facebook demanding for a fresh probe to find out the truth about how she died.
