Bangalore, June 14 (IBNS): Self-styled godman Swami Nithyananda will appear before a Ramanagara district court in connection to his bail hearing on Thursday.

He surrendered before the Ramanagara district court on Wednesday. He was sent to jail for a day.

Nithynanada received a jolt on Wednesday when the Karnataka High Court adjourned till Friday the hearing on his plea that asked to quash an First Information Report (FIR) against him.

Nithyananda's lawyers on Tuesday approached the High Court seeking to quash the FIR filed against him in connection to violent incidents that occurred at his Bidadi ashram in Bangalore last week.

He was facing arrest in connection to the matter.

The police had filed an FIR against him on charges of assault and threat to life after his followers engaged themselves in a wrangle with media persons and activists last week.

The state government has ordered to search and seize Nithyananda's properties.

Karnataka Chief Minister DV Sadananda Gowda earlier said the spiritual leader would be arrested in two days.

Anti-Nithyananda protests have been increasing in the past couple of days for the self-styled godman's alleged exploitation of his followers.

He caught himself into new troubles when a US-based woman alleged that the spiritual leader had sexually exploited him for the past five years.

Nithyananda was arrested in April 2010 from Arki, Solan, a small town in Himachal Pradesh.

He was in hiding for over a month after quitting his position as the head of his ashram in Karnataka following unearthing of tapes showing him in sleazy acts with a Tamil actress.

The spiritual guru was arrested on various charges, including molestation, rape, harassment and religious disloyalty.

He was booked under Sec 25A of the Indian Penal Code for hurting religious sentiments, Sec 420 and 377 for cheating and conspiracy. He has numerous cases in different courts in India as well as abroad.

Nithyananda used to make his followers sign a contract that says his programme will include practise of ancient tantric secrets associated with male and female ecstasy including use of sexual energy.
