New Delhi, Mar 15 (IBNS): Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said Thursday she had not intended to defame anyone, a day after state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Vijender Gupta reportedly sent her a legal notice demanding an apology for remarks against an NGO run by his wife.
"How can I do that (defaming). I only stated what is already known about the NGO. I never tried to defame him. Let them (BJP) say whatever they want to... but I had no intention to defame anyone," she was quoted as saying.
The Congress leader said she has not received any notice from Gupta and accused the BJP leader of consistently trying to tarnish her image by making personal attacks.
Taking strong exception to the language being used by Gupta against her “to gain political mileage”, Dikshit said "Why would I defame anyone? I have said whatever I heard."
On Monday, Diskhit had alleged that NGO Sampurna being run by Gupta's wife Shobha Vijender was involved in illicit activities.
She charged the NGO with receiving huge sums of money from Municipal Corporation of Delhi and the state government and not being able to account for the manner in which it had been spent.
Meanwhile, in another defamation row between the Gupta and Dikshit, the Delhi High Court on Thursday suggested the Delhi Chief Minister settle out-of-court her defamation case against the BJP leader.
"Why don't you settle the issue out of court?" Justice Kailash Gambhir said over the case filed by Dikshit against Gupta for allegedly erecting hoardings across the city, accusing her government of graft, asking the counsel to persuade their clients to resolve the matter by Apr 24.
