Nainital, Aug 16 (IBNS): The Uttarakhand High Court on Thursday granted bail to yoga guru Baba Ramdev's close aide Acharya Balkrishna in connection to a fake document case.
The court granted bail to Balkrishna on two personal bonds of Rs 5 lakh each.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on July 20 arrested Balkrishna after a non-bailable warrant was issued against him by a Dehradun court.
A CBI court in Dehradun on July 21 remanded Balkrishna to judicial custody.
The CBI on July 10 had filed a chargesheet against Balkrishna in the case before a special court on the basis of its investigation.
The probe agency alleged that Balkrishna submitted fake educational certificates in order to get a passport.
The CBI also accused Balkrishna of violating provisions of the Passport Act.
A case of cheating and criminal conspiracy was earlier registered by the CBI against Balkrishna for buying fake degrees and also violating section 12 of Indian Passport Act.
The probe agency took the decision after Sampurna Nand Sanskrit University Registrar Rajnish Shukla told it that university records did not feature the two degrees mentioned by Ramdev's aide.
Balkrishna's degrees reportedly showed he had passed two courses- 'Purv Madhyma' and 'Shastri'- from the university.
Shukla said the CBI found the enrollment numbers as mentioned in Balkrishna's degrees belonged to another student.
