Guwahati molestation: Reporter arrested

Guwahati, July 20 (IBNS): Gaurav Jyoti Neog, the reporter of the news channel News Live who was accused of fomenting a mob to carry out molestation of a teenaged girl on July 9 night, was arrested on Friday, police said.

Police said there are enough evidence to show that the reporter, who earlier had resigned from the channel, was part of the mob molestation of the girl as he filmed the humiliation and atrocity.

Neog, who had captured the brutal attack on the girl by a large number of men, was first accused of complicity in the crime by RTI activist Akhil Gogoi.

Gogoi had alleged that the reporter had a role in the continuing molestation and that he can prove that with the unedited footage in possession.

Gogoi said in the unedited video a voice asking the mob to bring the girl to a well lit place should be tested by forensic experts.

He said he would hand over the unedited footage to National Commission for Women (NCW).

Neog had denied fomenting the crowd to molest the girl.

In a signed statement he said allegations levelled against him are malicious and wild.

His channel also stood by him initially, but he had to resign subsequently.

Several arrest have been made in the case but the main accused, a man in red T-shirt identified as Amar Jyoti Kalita, is still absconding.

It was also suspected that Kalita is a friend of Neog though he died the same.
