Kolkata, Feb 23 (IBNS): Four people arrested in connection with the killing of two Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leaders in West Bengal’s Burdwan district were sent to 14 days of judicial custody on Thursday, local reports said.

The four accused, Choton Chakraborty, Patit Paban Tah, Surajit Tah and Gupin Mondal, said to be supporters of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), were sent to custody till March 6 by Bhaskar Majumdar, acting Chief Judicial Magistrate.

The group had allegedly attcked Pradip Tah, a former CPI-M MLA and Kamal Gayen, a party district committee member, on Wednesday at Dewandighi area in Burdwan town.

Gayen succumbed to his wounds after being rushed to the Burdwan Medical College and Hospital and Tah died of his injuries en route to a hospital in Kolkata.

Former West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and Left Front chairman Biman Bose on Saturday paid tributes to the slain communist colleagues at their Alimuddin Street party headquarters in Kolkata on Thursday.

Several CPI-M leaders, including Leader of the Opposition Surya Kanta Mishra, are scheduled to meet the West Bengal Governor MK Narayanan over the issue.

Meanwhile, a 12-hour shutdown is being observed in the Burdwan district on Thursday in protest to the killing of the leaders.

Earlier, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee told reporters that the CPI-M leaders died in an 'internal clash'.

Criticising her comments, Mishra said: "The state government is giving opposing comments. The Chief Minister has not learnt a lesson from the Park Street incident. We will meet the Governor at 5 pm."

Biman Bose also criticised the incident and said: "We have seen that since the Trinamool Congress (TMC) came to power, their goons are attacking various corners of Bengal in a planned manner."
