New Delhi, July 24 (IBNS): Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday night called on President elect Pranab Mukherjee on the eve of the swearing in of the Congress leader as the 13th President of India.
Mamata Banerjee, who initially was against lending support to Pranab Mukherjee, met the President elect and the two shared some cordial moments as both the leaders were beaming.
Mamata Banerjee said she would also throw a felicitation for Pranab Mukherjee in Kolkata soon after his assumption as the titular head of India.
Actor Mithun Chakraborty was also present in the meeting along with Railway Minister Mukul Roy and journalist-turned Rajya Sabha MP Kunal Ghosh.
Later Ghosh revealed to journalists that Mukherjee told Mamata that his happiness in the victory would have been incomplete had not Mamata turned up to greet him.
Earlier, burying their differences, Mamata Banerjee had congratulated Pranab Mukherjee on his win in the Presidential elections on Sunday.
Mamata Banerjee, who changed her position on Mukherjee and lent her support to the Congress leader, would be present in the swearing-in on July 25.
Trinamool Congress is the second largest constituent of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) at the centre.
Mamata Banerjee had said that her support was owing to her lack of options and because former president and nuclear scientist APJ Abdul Kalam refused to contest, but after Pranab Mukherjee's win was one of the first leaders to wish Mukherjee.
Pranab Mukherjee will be sworn in as the 13th President of India Wednesday around 11-30 by the Chief Justice of India.
