New Delhi, July 25 (IBNS): West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee has invited President Pranab Mukherjee to visit his home state West Bengal in the coming days, said Railway Minister Mukul Roy on Wednesday.
"Mamatadi has invited Pranab Mukherjee to visit West Bengal," Roy told reporters on Wednesday.
Roy said Mukherjee will decide whether he will visit Bihar first or West Bengal.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had earlier invited Mukherjee to visit the state first after becoming the President of the country.
"It was for the President to decide where to go first," Roy said.
Congress leader and former union minister Pranab Mukherjee took oath as the 13th President of India on Wednesday.
Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi were present at the swearing-in ceremony besides several other dignitaries.
Mamata, who called on Mukherjee the night before, was also present at the event.
Pranab Mukherjee defeated his rival Purno A Sangma in the Presidential election by a huge margin. He polled 69 percent of the votes.
On July 19, more than 4000 lawmakers cast their ballots in the Parliament and in state assemblies to elect the next President.
Mukherjee also got the support of political parties which are allies or supporters of UPA but are bitter rivals themselves.
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) led by Mayawati, Samajwadi Party (SP) led by Mulayam Singh Yadav and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Sharad Pawar, all supported Pranab Mukherjee.
Mamata also lent her support at the end after opposing him for weeks.
