WB ranks 27th in phone connections: Census

Kolkata, Mar 27 (IBNS) West Bengal ranks 27th so far as phone connections are concerned, according to Census 2011 with regard to Housing, Household Amenities and Assets of West Bengal.
As per the Census, in West Bengal 6% urban households have computer / laptop connection with internet facility and 9.1% households have computer / laptop connection without internet facility.
8% households have computer / laptop, however 15% urban population have computer / laptop. 49% households have telephone whereas 75% of urban population posses telephone connections.
Mobile connection is available to 43% households and to 61% urban households. In the backdrop of national figures West Bengal’s position is 27th out of 35 states so far as mobile / landline connections are concerned.
Only 18% households in West Bengal use LPG as their cooking fuel. 48.2% of urban population uses LPG as their cooking fuel. But in the national scenario West Bengal’s position is 28th out of 35 states in LPG usage as cooking fuel.
The figures were announced by Dipak Ghosh, Director, Census Operation, West Bengal at a press conference while announcing the results of Census 2011 with regard to Housing, Household Amenities and Assets of West Bengal in Kolkata on Tuesday.
