Guwahati, July 27 (IBNS): Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Friday slammed the Centre and said if it had intelligence inputs on the violence in the state then it should have sent the Army earlier.
Gogoi said he did not receive any intelligence inputs from the Centre.
"If they (Centre) had the intelligence reports, why did they did not take action on their own then?" Gogoi said while addressing a press conference on Friday.
"If they knew about the situation why did they not send the Army earlier?” he said.
"I received no intelligence inputs from the Centre," he said.
"We had requisitioned the Army on the very first day. But it took four-five days for the forces to reach the state," Gogoi said.
Gogoi said the death toll in the violence-hit state is 45 at present.
He said nearly four lakh people are currently staying in 203 relief camps that have been set up by the government.
Clashes between ethnic tribe Bodo and minority immigrants disrupted life in four districts of lower Assam.
Meanwhile, the Congress has formed a coordination committee to monitor the situation.
Reports said the committee also included some of the political opponents of Gogoi from his own party Congress.
Several Muslim lawmakers have expressed concern over the situation in Assam and met Union Home Minister P Chidambaram.
Even the Rajya Sabha MP of Congress K Rehman Khan said they have lost confidence in Gogoi.
Gogoi on Thursday visited the Kokrajhar district in Assam to review the situation.
Gogoi visited the relief camps in the area torn by violence for over a week now.
National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Progressive) has urged the centre t to intervene into the situation and deploy more security forces in the sensitive areas of the state.
According to media reports, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is likely to visit riot-affected Kokrajhar district of Assam on Saturday.
