New Delhi, Mar 28 (IBNS): Proceedings of the Lok Sabha were disrupted on Wednesday over the Telangana issue as members of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Congress moved to the Well and demanded for a separate statehood.
It was the third consecutive day when the Lower House of the Indian Parliament was adjourned over the Telangana row.
Members from the Telangana region reportedly shouted slogans and displayed posters in the House on Wednesday.
They refused pay any attention to Speaker Meira Kumar when she asked them to go back to their seats.
Kumar adjourned the House till noon as the members continued the uproar.
The Parliament was disrupted on Monday and Tuesday by the lawmakers from Telangana region who created a ruckus inside the House to protest the delay in forming a new state by the ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre.
The year 2011 saw widespread protests for a separate Telangana state that put pressure on the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre to expedite the bifurcation of the state, carving out the Telangana region with AP’s current capital Hyderabad as its main city.
The Telangana region, which merged with Andhra Pradesh in 1956 against the wishes of many locals, comprises of 10 districts - Adilabad, Hyderabad, Khammam, Karimnagar, Mahbubnagar, Medak, Nalgonda, Nizamabad, Rangareddy, and Warangal.
As the movement to divide the state gained momentum, politicians from coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema regions want the state of 85 million people to remain unified, and especially oppose tearing out the IT-hub city Hyderabad that would affect the state’s economy.
