Businessmen funding Maoists: RR Patil
India Blooms News Service
Mumbai, Mar 30 (IBNS) Maharashtra Home Minister RR Patil has alleged corporates of funding Maoists for their extremist activities.
Addressing the Maharashtra Assembly, Patil said: “Industrialists, who reside in cities and whose children study abroad, are funding Maoists and leaving tribals to die, for their own business interests."
Referring to the recent Maoists attack on Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district, Patil said:"What can the police do? If we detain somebody for four hours there is a hue and cry. We have to deal with courts and human right commissions. The Naxals just shoot people."
At least 12 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed and eight others were injured on Tuesday when the vehicle in which they were travelling was blown up by Maoists in Gadchiroli.
The bus in which the CRPF men were travelling was blown up by the rebels at Pushtola village in a remote area in Gadchiroli district, which is in western Maharashtra near the worst Maoist violence hit Chhattisgarh state.
In the last major attack in the area, three policemen, including two personnel of Cobra battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), were killed in Gadchiroli in Aug 2011.
