Panaji, June 30 (IBNS) An absconding doctor and his nurse girlfriend, both of whom have been charged with burning alive their employee in Sakoli town in Bhandara district (Maharashtra), were arrested Saturday morning by the Panaji police.
Dhananjay Lalji Tawde (36) an ayurvedic doctor and Rajini Logade (23) were picked up from a city hotel. Police said they had escaped after burning alive Mureshwar Nandeshwar on the intervening night of June 14-15.
Sakoli police have since been searching frantically for the accused duo.
Panaji police inspector Rajendra Prabhudesai said their counterparts in Sakoli had tipped off Goa police that mobile towers of the accused were located in Panaji.
“We promptly activated our informers and the local intelligence team. They were staying in a city hotel. We raided the hotel room and arrested them,” Prabhudesai who led the team, said.
Preliminary interrogation revealed that the doctor-nurse fled to Karnataka after allegedly burning the employee and his two-wheeler.
The Maruti 800 car in which they reportedly escaped was parked near Hubli railway station in Karnataka.
"They had told the Sakoli police that the victim had burned himself to death," the Pi said adding , "Both accused reportedly married in the Tirupati temple and thereafter traveled via train to Goa."
The Sakoli police are enroute to Goa to take over the custody of the accused, currently lodged in the South Goa Sada judicial lock up.
Sources said the doctor’s clinic at Sakoli and his native home in Nagpur was raided by the Sakoli police.
