Mirza lost 6-2, 6-1 straight sets to Italy's  Francesca  Schiavone

The 22-year-old Indian star had earlier made her way to the semis after her opponent Marion Martoli of France retired in the second set. Sania had won the first set 6-4 and she was leading the second set 2-0 when Bartoli could not continue any longer and retired.

Sania's entry into the semis had sparked hopes of her wining another title. The only time she has won a WTA title was the 2005 Hyderabad Open.
