Boston, Apr 21 (IBNS) A management student from Odisha was shot dead in the US on Thursday night, his family said on Saturday.
However, the police said they are yet to find out if it was a racial attack or a hate crime.
24-year-old K. Seshadri Rao's body was recovered from Allston Street around 2.40 am with bullet injuries near Boston University, where he was pursuing his graduation.
The youth, who was from Jeypore village of Odisha, was shot in the head and leg, said The Boston Globe.
The Indian consulate in New York informed his father Sudhakar Rao, who said his son was 'murdered' for jealousy.
“My son was extremely good at studies. He didn't have any problems with anyone. He did not have any bad habit. He was murdered out of jealously," Sudhakar told media.
Meanwhile, the Boston Police have stepped up patrolling along Allston Street after they found the body of the Graduate School of Management student about a mile from campus.
“We have added patrols for the neighborhood and detectives continue to look for clues in this tragic incident,” Boston Police Captain James Hussey was quoted as saying by the Boston University (BU) website.
No arrests have been made in the case, which is being investigated by the Boston Police Department and the Boston University Police Department, said the BU website.
“Our prayers go out to the family and friends of the student,” said BU President Robert A. Brown. “We are all deeply saddened by his death.”
