Attock, Pakistan, Aug 16 (IBNS) A group of militants in the wee hours of Thursday attacked the Kamrah airbase of Pakistan the air force and army personnel managed to free the zone after killing all the terrorists in a fierce gunfight.
Media reports said about eight to nine militants who had attacked the airbase were killed by personnel of Pakistan Air Force and SSG Commandoes of Pak Army.
According to Geo TV, "all eight militants have been killed while search for more miscreants is still underway in the surrounding area of the facility."
The terrorists had attacked the airbase in the guise of security personnel at around 2 am.
During the encounter between the forces and the militants several explosions were also heard. The gunfight lasted for about five hours.
The channel quoting a Pakistan Air Force official said "seven to eight militants stormed into PAF Base Minhas and in a two-way clash all eight were killed while one body of a suicide bomber, a foreigner, strapped with explosives has been found close to the impact area"
One Pakistani soldier was killed in the militant attack, it said.
“Security personnel are now in the process of scanning the entire area to check for the presence of any other miscreant,” said a defence spokesman, according to a report in Dawn.
No group, including Tehrik-iTaliban (TTP), has claimed responsibility of the attack so far.
