Islamabad, June 22 (IBNS): The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and its allies on Friday nominated senior party leader Raja Pervaiz Ashraf for the post the Prime Minister, Geo News reported.
PPP leader Syed Khurshid Shah made the announcement during a news conference on Friday.
The National Assembly session would be convened on Friday at 5:30 pm to elect the new Prime Minister of the South Asian nation.
Earlier, Pakistan President and Co-Chairman of the ruling PPP Asif Ali Zardari nominated Makhdoom Shahabuddin as a candidate for the post.
However, Shahabuddin's name was later dropped after an anti narcotics court on Thursday issued non-bailable warrants against him and Ali Musa Gilani in connection to the Ephedrine case.
Election to elect the new Prime Minister of the country became necessary after Yousuf Raza Gilani was disqualified by the country’s Supreme Court from holding his office on June 19.
