India Blooms News Service
London, June 26 (IBNS): Indian Tennis fans had a shocker on Saturday as tennis-duo Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes crashed out of the Wimbledon Men's doubles event here.
The third seeded Indian pair was defeated by French-Czech pair of Arnaud Clement and Lukas Dlouhy by 6-2, 3-6, 6-7(1-7), 4-6 margin.
The Indian pair had a strong start in the second round match as they won the first set quite convincingly but failed to maintain the momentum and eventually lost the encounter.
Earlier, in the French Open tournament the Indian Express had failed to make a significant mark as they had to exit from the tournament in the initial stage of it.
Interestingly, on Saturday Leander Paes was defeated by his former doubles partner Lukas Doluhy who was playing in the opposite corner of the court with his French partner.
Rohan Bopanna and his doubles partner from Pakistan Asiam Ul haq Qureshi had crashed out of the tournament earlier.
The only Indian hope in the doubles category now lies in the hand of young player Somdev Devvarman and his Japanese partner Kei Nishikori who defeated the German pair of Rainer Schuettler and Alexander Waske in the first round encounter by 6-7 (3-7), 6-3, 6-2 margin to reach the second round of the important Tennis event of the year.
