Mumbai, July 4 (IBNS): Indian cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar has been rested for the upcoming Sri Lanka tour while Virender Sehwag and Zaheer Khan were named in the limited overs-squad.
The All India Senior Selection Committee met on Wednesday at Cricket Centre in Mumbai to pick the Indian team for 5 ODIs and 1 T20 to be played in Sri Lanka.
India's cricket captain MS Dhoni will be leading his team to play 5 ODIs and one T20 in Sri Lanka in July-August, said the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday.
Virat Kohli has been named the vice-captain of the Indian side.
"Of course, Sachin Tendulkar is not available and he will be starting off from the New Zealand series," chairman of selection committee Krishnamachari Srikkanth told reporters on Wednesday.
He said he is confident that the Indian team will perform well in Sri Lanka.
"We have the best available team," he said.
"We are confident that it will do well in Sri Lanka," he said.
