Panaji, June 25 (IBNS) Embroiled in an age controversy and facing criminal charges, Ranji player Ganeshraj Narvekar has been expelled by the Goa Cricket Association (GCA) from all its activities, tournaments and training for six years.
GCA Secretary Prasad Phatarpekar informed reporters on Monday that the decision was taken by a three member committee in the wake of several controversies surrounding the cricketer over the forged birth certificate.
Ganeshraj, son of ex-GCA President and ex-Vice President of Board of Cricket Control of India (BCCI) Dayanand Narvekar, is accused of forging his birth certificate to play in the under 15 cricket team thrice while the BCCI rules stipulate that a player is eligible to play only twice.
Mapusa police recently filed a chargesheet against Dayanand Narvekar, his wife Shushma and Ganeshraj after completing the investigation based on a criminal complaint lodged by GCA member Dr Shekhar Salkar in 2010.
Meanwhile, the anti corruption bureau of Goa police is conducting a parallel inquiry in the same case.
