London, Jun 29 (IBNS) Leander Paes will play in the London Olympics, confirmed the ace tennis player on Friday.
"Won't allow petty politics come in way of hard work and good tennis," he was quoted saying as he agreed to play with any team chosen by the All India Tennis Association (AITA).
Amid several controversies, including an outburst of Sania Mirza after she was asked to pair with Leander by the AITA, Leander confirmed the news of his decision to play and not react to the anything else at the moment.
Mahesh Bhupathi and Bopanna, who qualified for the Olympics as a team, had earlier refused to pair with Paes.
The All India Tennis Association (AITA) a week ago had sent national selector Rohit Rajpal to London to convince Leander Paes, who was not impressed with the national federation's compromise formula for the London Games.
Paes was undecided over the Olympics after he was asked to pair with a junior player in Vishnu Vardhan while Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna had their way in pairing together for the Games.
Leander's father Vece Paes indicated earlier that his son would skip the Olympics, when the AITA said it had decided to send two teams for the men's doubles event.
The AITA had on Wednesday rejected Sania's Mirza claim that she was made a bait in order to pacify Leander Paes pair up with rookie Vishnu Vardhan in the men's doubles event of the London Games.
