Tourists, money & Goa

India Blooms News Service

Panaji, July 12 (IBNS) Foreign tourists from South-East Asian countries, Nordic countries and the Unites States of America spend considerably more money than tourists from other countries, Goa Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar said.

He was replying to a starred question of Independent MLA Vijay Sardesai in the state legislative assembly on Thursday.

The minister said the government is making all efforts to promote Goa as a popular tourist hub by participating in various international activities to popularize Goa as tourist hub.

“The general trend is that tourists from South East Asiain countries, Nordic countries and the Unites States of America are higher spending than other countries. Government is taking part in various international road shows and exhibitions,” he replied.

The ruling government, however, does not have any ‘segregated data on spending capacity of tourists.’

The 20-day long monsoon session of the Goa Legislative Assembly began today. Sardessai, independent legislator representing Fatorday constituency has filed nearly 200 questions to be answered by the ruling.

I am a Goan and live abroad. On my recent visit, my fourth since I settled abroad, I was appalled that basic cleanliness was sadly lacking in Goa. The garbage all over, lack of public toilets on beaches and elsewhere and a general lack of hygiene in eating places. Goa is beautiful but generally leaves a lot to be desired in terms of cleanliness.
