Schneider Electric India declares Bangalore's 'Green Champion 2014'

Bangalore, Dec 18 (IBNS): Schneider Electric India Foundation (SEIF), the social commitment of Schneider Electric India, on Thursday organised the grand finale of 'Green Championship 2014' under its 'Conserve My Planet' program at Gangothri International Public School.
More than 300 Green Ambassadors between 10 and 13 years of age (along with 20 teachers) from 10 reputed Bangalore schools participated in the Green Championship event, with Atafa Atiria, Kendriya Vidyalya, Hebbal, Bangalore being declared the ‘Green Champion 2014’ for Bangalore. 
 
S. Nagarajan, Vice President - National Sales, Schneider Electric India and  Nikhil Pathak, VP and Country General Manager India and SAARC, Schneider Electric IT Business were the Chief Guest at the event. They presided over the Power Pledge and spoke about the impact of this program in Bangalore, followed by awarding the winners.
 
Elaborating on the event, Abhimanyu Sahu, Director – CSR, Schneider Electric India Pvt. Ltd, said: “Conserve My Planet initiative by Schneider Electric is a novel educational program conceptualised to address the critical energy crisis. It seeks to spread awareness among young minds about the importance of conserving energy and protecting the environment. Being held in six cities across India, the ‘Green Championship’ is the concluding event of the ‘Conserve My Planet’ program for 2014, with Bangalore being the fifth city to host its grand finale, and each city having its individual ‘Green Champion’.” 
 
‘Conserve My Planet’ is an educational program by Schneider Electric India Foundation conceptualized to address the crucial energy crisis and to educate young minds about the importance of conserving energy and protecting the environment. 
 
The program covers 6 cities of India (Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Chennai) and is aimed at students of age group 10 to 13 years.  All participating schools are diligently selected for the program and stand together as a proud community called the Green Republic. All selected students of the Green Republic are termed Green Ambassadors. The ‘Green Championship’ is the concluding event of the ‘Conserve My Planet’ program for 2014.
 
For ‘Green Championship 2014’, ‘Conserve My Planet’ held a school-level contest to choose the school champions. All 1000 registered Green Ambassadors from 10 reputed school campuses of Bangalore answered a general quiz, and participated in a debate. 
 
Thereafter, 10 chosen school champions locked horns during pre-finals at Gangothri International Public School, displaying their working model on the given concept. The top five were then shortlisted for the finals at Gangothri International Public School, where they displayed a PPT presentation of their working models. The final School Champion was then declared the ‘Green Champion 2014’ for Bangalore.
 
Different categories winners were honoured by Schneider Electric. These winners were:
 
 
 
·         Best School: Kendriya Vidyalaya, Malleshwaram, Bangalore
 
·         Best Teacher Coordinators : Mrs. Kanchan Singh & Mrs.Suma, St.Claret             School, Jalahalli, Bangalore
 
·         Best Campaigner: Kirthana N, Gangothri International School
 
·         Energy Star School: The school that saved the most electricity during the             CMP execution period was St,Claret, Jalahalli, Bangalore
 
·         Energy Star Green Ambassador: Nischay, Gangothri International School
 
·         Energy Star Teacher:  Mrs. Majella  Mary Ann, Alphine Public School
