Kolkata, Mar 23 (IBNS): With a mission to emphasize the need for education, Believers Church's child care project, Bridge of Hope, held felicitation functions for underprivileged children, who have exhibited academic excellence, at a recent event in Kolkata.

Various social activities and gift distribution drives were carried out across the city as part of this drive.

Presenting the awards Surajit Bose, Additional District Magistrate, North 24 PGS, Kolkata said, "Believers Church is doing phenomenal work in the entire Kolkata region for the upliftment of poor, marginalized and underprivileged people. It is especially heartening to see the participation of non-governmental bodies in key areas like education. The way this program has reached out to the neediest of the children is truly commendable.”

Around 110 students from Madhyamgram locality were felicitated in Wednesday's program, which was attended by more than 500 people, including children, their parents, staff members of Bridge of Hope and government functionaries.

More than 6100 students across the State have benefitted from this drive.

Each student received two plastic chairs, one school bag, two shopping bags, one plastic table and one carpet during the event.

Speaking on the occasion, Bishop Dr Juria Bardhan of Believers Church, Kolkata Diocese said, “We want to make full use of our ability to help underprivileged children so that they become responsible and successful citizens of this country. This event is just another occasion to remind ourselves that our future is linked to theirs.”

Bridge of Hope program aims to educate and empower underprivileged children across the country.

Currently more than 80,000 children are enrolled under this program across India and South-East Asia.

The program aims to provide better education, healthcare and hygiene opportunities to the lesser privileged.

Commenting on the initiative Dr K P Yohannan, Metropolitan of Believers Church said, “The need to educate and empower them is not the need of these children but it is our need. You cannot imagine a peaceful and harmonious future for any of us without education and empowerment for our future generations.”
