Hyderabad, Aug 31 (IBNS): Away from the ALS ice bucket challenge which has gripped the attention of millions of people across the globe, an Indian woman is spreading a completely noble concept to encourage charity for the poor by her 'Rice Bucket Challenge'.

As per the simple challenge, all a person needs to do is to cook or buy a bucket of rice and then feed it to someone who needs it.

The idea was conceived by  Hyderabad-based journalist Manju Latha Kalanidhi.

"Desi Challenge for Desi Needs, Cook or buy one bucket of Rice / Biryani and feed the needy. Tag #RiceBucketChallenge and challenge your friends," reads the Facebook page of the challenge.

The challenge has already gone viral with large number of people, both in India and outside, taking their pictures while participating in the  challenge and then posting them on the official Facebook page.

"Chalo I am all ready for a #RiceBucketChallenge (TM Manju Latha Kalanidhi)..desi style.. cook or buy one bucket of rice/ biryani and feed the poor in your locality. If you can't take this challenge, donate medicines worth Rs 100 to the nearest government hospital.. Whoz joining me in this one? My own local, practical and tangible version/response to #icebucketchallenge .... save water feed the hungry!"Kalanidhi had earlier posted on her Facebook page.

She wrote: "Within 24hours of posting this, I managed to begin charity at home.. the recipient is Sathibabu, a daily labourer who sells idlis/dosas in a mobile shop on his bicycle.. Thanks Vijeye Devuni (@donofhr) for actually filling his idli bucket with rice and giving him a month's full of rice supply!"

On the other hand, it was the  Ice Bucket Challenge which surely gave Kalanidhi  the impetus to initiate such a move which can help large number of poor people across the world.

The Ice Bucket Challenge, sometimes called the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, is an activity involving dumping a bucket of ice water on someone's head to promote awareness of the disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and encourage donations to research.

It went viral throughout social media during July-August 2014.
