Eastern Railway steps up security in trains

Kolkata, May 22 (IBNS): Eastern Railway has stepped up security in trains. Special security escort has been arranged in first and last EMU locals in different sections over Sealdah division.

Seventeen (17) teams of adequately armed RPF personnel have been deployed to maintain security in eighteen (18) pairs of EMU locals (first & last locals) over Sealdah division. Inspectors at different stations will check and monitor the presence of security escort in the trains. The RPF team is also conducting raids and decoy checks in late night and early morning trains, an official statement said.

Besides, a 5-member special team headed by an RPF Inspector has been formed at Sealdah to solve the cases of theft or snatching of passengers belongings and to curb crime against women.

Moreover, plain cloth security personnel have been deployed to keep surveillance over suspicious elements. Entry and exit through the gates of important stations like Sealdah has been restricted and being strictly monitored by RPF and Commercial Staff round the clock to minimize the access of unwanted people to the station area.  Besides, random checking at station platforms and luggage of the passengers has been arranged by deploying Dog Squad and hand held metal detector.

As a result of this, a total of 790 offenders have been apprehended under different sections of Railway Act over Sealdah division during May 12 to 19. Among these 335 offenders were apprehended from train compartments. A total fine amounting to   Rs. 1,80,250  has also been realized from these offenders.
