Mamata Banerjee inaugurates Kolkata's Parama flyover
Kolkata, Oct 9 (IBNS): West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated Kolkata's most awaited and longest Parama Flyover on Friday.
WB Urban Development and Municipal Affairs minister Firhad Hakim, Housing and interim Sports Minister Arup Biswas and Commissioner of Kolkata Police Surajit Kar Purokayastha were present at the inaugural event.
The 4.3 km long flyover (9 km long with flanks and ramps) connects Eastern Metropolitan Bypass (EM Bypass) and Park Circus. It starts from Park Circus Seven Point X-ing and ends at EM Bypass near Salt Lake. On the EM Bypass side, one flank of this flyover is ending near Bartaman Bhaban at Dhapa area and another flank is ending near Ambedkar Bridge and PC Chandra Garden at Arupota area.
The estimated cost of the flyover is 330 crore rupees.
Inaugurating the flyover here, Mamata Banerjee said, "We had set a target for ourselves to complete this project and we have completed before that target. We thank all the labourers who built this infrastructural marvel and the people of Kolkata for their patience."
Blaming the central government for their non-cooperation to make this flyover, Banerjee said, "Despite non-cooperation from the centre, I am proud to say we took it upon ourselves to complete the project. The centre walked back on its promise of constructing this flyover. But we took it forward.”
Attacking the oppositions here, Mamata Banerjee said, "Infrastructure is our asset. Our GDP growth is higher than the national average. Soon West Bengal will shine all over India for its infrastructure. Despite all the development, the Opposition is indulging in slander politics. I tell them to stay quiet and witness the development.”
"This is a project was announced by the Left ruled government. But they did not finish it. We are completing their unfinished projects. They did nothing in last 34 years, just slept. Now are only showing their faces in TV channels," Banerjee added.
Chief minister Mamata Banerjee also announced the construction of another flyover which would connect Taratala and Prince Anwar Shah Road in south Kolkata.
The Chief Minister on Friday also inaugurated through remote control few other projects for New Town area, including a Herbal Garden, a tea garden and tea lounge in Eco Park and Biswa Bangla Wi-Fi service in New Town.
She also inaugurated statues of Bangladesh ex-PM Sk Mujibur Rahman and former Indian president APJ Abdul Kalam in the Mother's Wax Museum.
The construction of a flank, which will connect Parama flyover and AJC Bose Road flyover, will be started after Durga Puja and the targeted completion time of the project is July, 2016.
