Bihar youth arrested for posting FB photo with liquor bottle

India Blooms News Service | | 05 Dec 2016, 02:33 pm
Patna, Dec 5 (TheBiharPost/IBNS): Police in Bihar have arrested a group of youths after one of them posted on Facebook a photograph of himself with half-empty liquor bottle.

The arrest was made from Nalanda district on Sunday evening shortly after one of the youths, identifying himself as Vicky Kumar, shared an image of a party with half-empty liquor bottle with the message “Party all night”.

The local media reported the Nalanda district superintendent of police Kumar Ashish came across this post on Facebook after which he ordered the police to search for the accused.

Soon, the accused was arrested along with his four other companions from Laheri police station areas in the district.

This is the probably the first arrest in the state on the charge of posting photograph of a liquor bottle.

The Bihar Government had declared total prohibition in the state in April, 2016 and started dealing with heavy hands those flouting the order.

However, in September, the Patna High Court struck down the prohibition order, calling it "illegal."

Soon after, the state Governent notified and enforced a new liquor law, replacing the existing one and stipulating more stringent provisions.
